Abstract

Multilayer bandage treatment is a key modality of complex decongestive therapy, which is applied continuously in the initial intensive phase and performed as needed in the maintenance phase. Short-stretch bandage is used for standard multilayer bandage treatment to achieve a low resting pressure and high working pressure. Generally, the highest compression level tolerated by the patient is likely to be beneficial. However, a higher pressure bandage has shown more complaints of pain and discomfort, and a negative effect on edema reduction in some cases. Considering previous studies and documents, a resting pressure of approximately 30 mmHg for the arm and 40-60 mmHg for the leg would be optimal for effective edema reduction and tolerability in patients with lymphedema.
